BKT has a vision for responsible growth. Our motto “Growing Together” means not only inclusion, but also environmental stewardship. However, we know that actions speak louder than words. We actively put this vision and motto into practice through sustainable pursuits: serving and protecting both our environment and our global communities.
Our dedication to sustainability has gone from strength to strength in the last few years - and long may our mission continue! At BKT, we believe it is of utmost importance to document our sustainable progress. We have therefore recently released our annual Sustainability Report, which details the progress we have made in the last two years. Join us as we run through some of the highlights!

BKT: Eco Warriors
Our environmentally friendly missions in 2021 and 2022 included our continuous resource preservation, use of green energy, reduction of waste, and substantial investments in sustainable alternatives. In today’s article, we’d like to share some of the progress we’re most proud of.
First, let’s explore our use of renewable energy. Across 2020 and 2021, we reduced our non-renewable energy usage by 16.38%. In the last few years, our solar plants at Bhuj and Chopanki have been flourishing. We have been vigilantly following our ongoing sustainable strategy: to deploy wind and solar energy sources, while forming several eco-friendly projects at our plants. We are, of course, aiming for further progress in the future – with the goal to upgrade our solar capacity from 5 MW to 5.5 MW.
Speaking of our sustainable projects, we are particularly proud of our green belts. We have started green cover projects at our Chopanki and Bhiwadi plants, yet in the last few years, our Bhuj plant – which is also our largest plant – has significantly scaled our green initiatives. Recently, we planted trees, grass and additional shrubs at Bhuj, forming a new habitat which many endangered species now call home. Also, we've managed to plant 57,895 trees inside the Bhuj plant, and 43,059 trees outside the premises – primed for CO2 absorption!
Finally, we’re itching to introduce you to our Carbon Black plant! Did we mention that we’re the first company in our industry to create our own Carbon Black? What’s more, our Carbon Black plant is an 100% energy efficient system built and set for zero loss of resources – making it one of the most environmentally sustainable Carbon Black plants in the world!
BKT: Family Oriented
At BKT, our People-Centric approach is at the heart of all we do. Our founder, Mahabirprasad Poddar claimed that “when a person walks into our organization, he must feel happy to come for work; when he leaves, he must leave with a heavy heart waiting to return the next day with greater enthusiasm.” This quote is the key encapsulation of his family values, and BKT has continued following in his footsteps: even decades later, these values still ring true.
For example, 2021 and 2022 saw the continuation of our record-breakingly low staff turnover rate. Why? Because our family-oriented values underpin all our policies and employee relations.
We have built a culture of mutual respect and genuine care for all members of the BKT family, including our local communities, leaders and employees alike. So, how do we demonstrate this? One important example is our intrinsic focus on Health and Safety; the wellbeing of our employees is our priority, and we undergo rigorous evaluations of all operations to ensure that they are 100% efficient, reliable and safe. What’s more, we are passionate about talent development. Not only is upskilling our workforce an essential part of our Health and Safety priorities, but this also allows us to nurture the talent of our team. We run numerous talent development programs, including ‘Campus to Corporate’, which is aimed at the sharp young minds of tomorrow. This program brings in new talents every year, with over 100 young people being introduced to all BKT's functions, from Technology to Production, and Engineering to Commercial.
BKT’s family spans numerous corners of the globe. This highlights our passion for inclusion and diversity; our multi-cultural BKT family is rich in varying perspectives, collaboration and inspiration. Additionally, we ensure that each of our local communities feels part of the family – and thus well cared for. 18 km from Bhuj City, Kutch, Gujarat, we built a modern residential complex for employees of the Bhuj plant. This colony keeps our employees close to the production center, while simultaneously providing them with a home: a shared community to cherish. At present, it is populated with 420 families - yet is set to expand in the near future!
